Prefabricated Homes - The Good, The Bad And The Downright Ugly By Guru Bhakt
28/03/2007 by admin.
 Now, would not it be great if the prefab industry could build extremely beautiful and gorgeous looking homes in a week - homes that would satisfy every individual whim and taste and still be very, very cheap and affordable to everyone ?
That would of course be great ! But the problem has always been satisfying every individual taste and yet making prefabricated homes easily affordable to the vast majority of the people. You see, if prefab homes have to be made affordable, then at least a few designs would have to be mass produced. And if just a few designs were to be mass produced, then a majority of the homes will start looking and feeling the same. And people always want their homes to be better looking than their neighbours’ homes. Which essentially means that mass producing homes may not work. So prefabricated homes cannot always be made cheaper than homes built the regular way.
But still, the prefab industry offers a ray of hope for today’s environmentally conscious people. They do have their strengths. But like many other promising things in life, not everything about them may be hunky-dory either. Here is a brief list of the tradeoffs …
The Good - Why A Pre-Fabricated Home
Prefabricated homes are fast to build, and they are not as damaging to the environment as building a home the regular way could be. They offer the potential to reduce wastage and offer the benefits of mass production - lower prices, faster and easier to build, and a range of designs to choose from.
Fewer defects, much faster construction, lesser skill requirements, reduced energy consumption and wastage are possible the chief benefits of prefabricated homes. But that is not all - in colder climates, faster construction is essential because the building period is relatively shorter. And prefab homes reduce the amount of disruption the neighbours will have to put up with.
If you have deep pockets and relatively expensive tastes and are very environmentally conscious, the a prefabricated home may be just what may be good for you.
The Bad - Just How Much Does It Cost ?
No prefabricated home manufacturer may be able to give you a quote without seeing the site where the home will be built. And the final cost may depend on many factors and so it may be almost impossible to get a good idea of what the home is going to cost before the manufacturer has had a chance to get to see the site and talk with you about your tastes and requirements.
Though prefab homes are said to be available at all budgets, it does help if money is not a constraint as some of the best designs - especially the very high end high tech designs - do cost quite some money to build. The low cost designs may not be very appealing to everyone.
The truly lovely prefabricated designs are still designed mainly for the high income families and affordable prefabricated home designs that appeal to a large percentage of the population may not yet be exactly around the corner.
And The Downright Ugly - What Are The Disadvantages ?
Many of the supposed advantages of prefabricated homes are still hotly contested and may still need to be proven definitively. Some people opine that prefabricated homes actually may cost more than traditional homes. And prefabricated homes are manufactured at factories that have fixed overheads - labour, plant and machinery and more - and this makes it difficult for the prefabricated industry to respond to changing market conditions.
To manufacture homes at very low costs, the prefabricated industry will have to mass produce homes in very large quantities. But for that to happen, the prefab industry will need to have very large capacities. Unless this happens, the costs of prefabricated homes may not drop very appreciably.
And contrary to what may appear to be the case, prefabricated homes may actually need a lot more skilled labour to precisely assemble factory made parts. Otherwise, all the benefits of prefabricated homes may not be available to the occupants of the homes.
Also, there seems to be scanty evidence that prefabricated homes actually reduce wastage. In case there is a problem with a design that already has become very popular, then lots of homes will have to be repaired because they would all have been mass produced. This could actually increase the amount of wastage in manufacture and transport.
Then there is the question of value - will most people be willing to pay as much for prefabricated homes as they would for a traditional home built using methods they have become so familiar comfortable with ?
That said, the prefabricated industry is still in its infancy and offers several advantages including the potential to reduce the harmful impact on the environment - something that could become a very important concern in the near future. But arriving at designs that are both affordable and appealing to the majority of the people and environmentally friendly may still be a long way to go.

Combating Your Ancient Video Card By Pamela Stevens
27/03/2007 by admin.
 You hooked up your new monitor and can’t wait to see how your game looks on the new screen, only to see pausing and skips. Before you rush it back to the store for a refund, the jerky animation you see could be your aged video card (graphics card) or outdated drivers.
The word on popular gaming sites is that any card over two years old is outdated. If your favorite game is less than two years old, then you are not seeing your game at its full potential. Some hard–core gamers will not even wait two years before updating to a new card. Although most games have a certain amount of flexibility; since manufacturers know that not all gamers can afford to upgrade their video card every six months. Nevertheless, after two years, replacement is necessary.
When considering updating your graphics card the first thing to figure out is whether your computer can accept a new card. So check the documentation that came with your computer or go to the manufacturer’s website to see if your computer model is capable of upgrading. If your computer is short on RAM, you may want to invest in an upgrade anyway.
To choose the most updated and compatible card do some research. Tom’s Hardware is a good place to start, or visit your favorite gaming news page. Shopping for graphics cards can get highly technical and confusing, but price is an obvious deciding factor. If the new graphics card you are looking at costs more than your computer is worth, you may want to think about upgrading your computer. Currently, graphics cards can get a bit pricey, ranging from $200 to $650. Keep in mind that most new graphics cards require a recent version of DirectX®, but that’s easy to get.
If you have a graphics card less than two years old, you may need to update your drivers. If you are a Microsoft user, go to http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/games/learnmore/ updatingdrivers.mspx to find out about automatic driver updates. Additionally you can look to your monitor manufacturer’s webpage to see what drivers they have available that may increase your performance.
With a fast monitor, updated drivers, a capable computer and a high performance graphics card your games should play clear and skip free.

Save Money On Printer Ink By Oliver Turner
27/03/2007 by admin.
 Printer ink is very expensive and due to this the cost of running a printer is also very high. However, it is possible to save money on printer ink if you know what are the things to consider and where to buy.
The best way to save money on printer ink is to buy remanufactured cartridges or compatible cartridges for your printer rather than buying expensive OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) cartridges. Remanufactured cartridges are recycled OEM cartridges. Empty cartridges are professionally refilled by experts and then put up for sale. Compatible cartridges are third-party cartridges manufactured by companies who make cartridges for various printer types. Refilling your printer cartridge with a refill kit is also a good way of saving money. Refilling is the cheapest of all the options available.
Buying online can also save money on printer ink. Online sellers offer discounts and it will be easy to compare prices of various dealers and choose the best price. You will also be able to save on traveling and shipping expenses. Many sellers offer free shipping facilities on their products.
Having an extra cartridge at home will help save money on printer ink. If your printer suddenly runs out of ink, you don’t have to go to the retail printer store and buy printer ink at a considerably higher price. If the number of printouts from your printer is too high then is it best to buy cartridges in bulk. Dealers will give huge discounts if you purchase in bulk. Bulk purchases are suitable for offices and large set-ups.
As printer inks are very expensive, the best way to save money on printer ink is to use it economically. Plan and print. Often people take printouts simply to realize later that it is not required. Take printouts of only those documents that are necessary.

External Hard Drives - Discover Why Buying an External Hard Drive Will Save You Time And Money By Tim McIntyre
27/03/2007 by admin.
It seems that everywhere you look these days you find external hard drives. So what are external hard drives, and why have they suddenly become the latest essential gadget for the busy computer user?
Put simply, an external hard drive is just a bit of memory in an attractive looking case, which can be plugged into computers in a second. Despite being an incredibly simple invention, external hard drives are also very useful too.
The home and work computer is now everywhere, and it’s not usual to use several PCs during the course of a week. Many people use one computer at work, one at home, and many also use a laptop too. When you throw the increasing use of hand held PCs into the mix, you end up with a lot of people saving a lot of different files onto a lot of different computers.
Saving files onto lots of different computers causes a ton of problems for the busy, but slightly disorganised computer user. I have lost track of the amount of times where I have simply forgotten which computer I saved my latest essential document. I must have lost close to weeks of my life searching the all the different computers I have access to at work or at home, simply trying to find the find I needed ten minutes earlier.
So how does an external hard drive help solve this increasingly frustrating problem? Well, since I purchased an external hard drive some months ago, I now choose to save all of my documents onto it. Instead of saving onto their local PC that I am using, I now opt to save to the external hard drive that plugs in quickly and easily.
Rather than spending hours searching for important files, I now know that all of my files are secured safely in one place. Trust me, this saves me a lot of time and it could do for you too. If you want to make yourself more efficient at home or at work, or even if you just like fancy gadgets, then buy an external hard drive today.

The Amazing Health Benefits of Tomatoes By Russell Cantwell
26/03/2007 by admin.
 Health Benefits of Tomatoes
Many of the health benefits of tomatoes are believed to be associated with the natural chemical that makes it red.
Lycopene in tomatoes causes the bright red color. Whether a person can get as much benefit from a lycopene supplement as he or she can from eating a whole tomato is a subject of some debate.
The name lycopene was taken from the botanical name of the tomato, Solanum lycopersicum. Lycopene is the most common organic pigment in the human body. It is also one of the most potent antioxidants.
Antioxidants are necessary in both humans and plants to prevent damage to the cells that can be caused by oxidative stress, which is present in many diseases including heart disease, vascular disease, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and cancer.
The amount of lycopene in tomatoes is higher than that found in other red fruits and vegetables. In most fruits and vegetables, the nutritional content is reduced by cooking. However, the amount of lycopene in tomatoes that is available for use by the human body (bioavailable) is increased by cooking.
Thus, the bioavailable lycopene in tomato paste is four times greater than the bioavailable lycopene in tomatoes that are freshly picked.
Research studies related to the health benefits of tomatoes are numerous. The lycopene in tomatoes is believed to play a role in cancer prevention. However, recent studies have shown that a stand-alone lycopene supplement alone is not as effective as dietary intake of a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.
Public health organizations, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society recommend a daily intake of 5-10 servings of fruits and vegetables per day.
Recently, at the University of Illinois, vegetables were studied for their effectiveness at reducing cancer tumor growth. In this study, tomatoes were compared to broccoli and a broccoli-tomato combination. The researchers concluded that the broccoli-tomato combination was more effective at suppressing tumor growth than either of the vegetables alone.
It seems that the health benefits of tomatoes are enhanced by adding other vegetables to the mix, creating a synergy.
An alternative to a lycopene supplement, and probably a better choice for dietary supplementation, is a whole food supplement.
Recent research showed that a whole food supplement containing fruit reduced unhealthy cholesterol levels in male volunteers. However, research involving a lycopene supplement alone was not shown to improve cholesterol levels.
Scientists have spent many years trying to isolate the “effective” ingredients in plant foods, but most now agree that it is likely that a combination of plant food components provide the benefits.
Whole food supplements made from plant foods contain all of the naturally existing components, not just one or two isolated compounds.
The health benefits of tomatoes have been overshadowed lately by a fear of salmonella contamination. Salmonella is a bacterium that causes typhoid fever, paratyphoid fever and food poisoning. At one time, salmonella diseases were easily treated with antibiotics.
However, a new strain of salmonella, caused by the overuse of antibiotics in poultry and beef, may be resistant to antibiotic treatment.
You can get the health benefits of tomatoes and avoid the risk of salmonella poisoning with whole food supplements, like the popular Juice Plus+®.

What You Should Know About Dealing With Addiction, Part 2 By Gabriel J. Adams
26/03/2007 by admin.
 Help Options For Dealing With Addiction
Family and friends who help their loved ones deal with addiction may suggest, encourage, or insist upon a variety of help options. Depending on the type of addiction, one or more of the following approaches towards treatment might be chosen. For some, a tailored course of action could be implemented because it is not uncommon to see one suffer from more than one addiction. For example, a sex addict may also abuse alcohol. Therefore, they may face treatment options for both psychological and physical dependency.
Individual Counseling: A professional counselor will meet for a period of time with an individual battling addiction as one of many support measures. Since the counselor has experience with mental health issues, they might be able to help the patient understand the problems in their life that leads to their addiction.
Medication: Sometimes an addict will need medication to help wean themselves from their dependencies. For example, Nicorette helps those addicted to smoking, while Naltrexone aids drug addicts.
Detox: For those fighting a drug or alcohol addiction, a period of time where the drugs are completely removed from their system might be needed. In a variety of settings, detox may occur in a hospital, specific clinic, or treatment facility.
Inpatient Treatment: Addicts may undergo a structured program through onsite treatment where both individual and groups sessions are used. The goal of inpatient programs is to assist an individual in becoming addiction-free and equipping them with the ability to return to a normal life within their previous community setting.
Outpatient Treatment: Instead of staying overnight at a facility, treatment is received through individual therapy and group work that requires a patient to come on a regular basis to meet their program expectations.
Self Help Recovery Groups: In every city, there are self-help groups, such as Alcoholics Anonymous (also known as AA), which offers meetings to help alcoholics stay on the track of sobriety. Narcotics Anonymous (NA) works with drug addicts, which provide 12-step self-help programs. There are also self-help groups for any addiction, including for sex and food.

What You Should Know About Dealing With Addiction, Part 1 By Gabriel J. Adams
26/03/2007 by admin.
 Whether you love chocolate or can’t stop watching reality television shows, there are certain addictions that bring danger to your health, livelihood, or emotional stability. When one gets into the habit of abusing substances, displaying caustic behavior, and/or following negative lifestyle patterns, they will need extra support and help to break the cycle of self-destruction. Below you will find a variety of signs that arise when one needs help dealing with addition.
Different Types of Addiction
When the word “addiction” is mentioned in a conversation, many people tend to think of drugs and alcohol as the main source of the problem. There are plenty of other factors that can lead to the loss of control over substances, behavioral patterns, or habits. When addicted, an individual feels as if they have to possess, use, or take advantage of whatever circumstance or substance is consuming their life. Addiction can take over the psychological stability of a person or attack their physical well being. In many cases, both instances are involved.
Physical addiction encompasses the body’s dependency on a specific substance (whether it is cocaine, alcohol or heroin). Over time, a person may build up a tolerance to this substance, making smaller doses obsolete. In turn, an individual needs to consume or intake larger quantities of the drug to continue feeling the same high they are accustomed to. When a physically addicted person ceases the use of their drug of choice, they may undergo withdrawal symptoms. For this reason, quitting their physical addictions becomes even harder.
Psychological addiction occurs when one displays a craving for a drug or activity that affects their emotional stability. It is the desire to have the drug or participate in an act that moves one to continue, which often leads to desperate actions, such as lying or stealing. Eventually, the need for the drug or activity begins to surpass the initial longing to have fun. A dependency develops and quitting the habit becomes very hard.
Physical and psychological addiction may occur when one becomes dependent on alcohol, cigarettes, gambling, sex, food, and other illegal drugs. Dealing with addiction is rather difficult to master, but recognizing and knowing the signs will help immensely in eradicating the dependency. Drug addicts may use illegal substances to forget their daily problems and relieve stress. Sex addicts may place themselves in dangerous situations to bring someone home with them. Gambling addicts may steal money from family and friends so they can visit casinos or play the lottery. Those addicted to food may display the signs of eating disorders, such as bulimia. Alcoholics may exhibit anxiety, anger, depression, and/or mood swings.

How to Setup a Mobile Office By Natalie Aranda
25/03/2007 by admin.
Working remotely is awesome and it allows you to determine where you work, when, and the accommodations you have. Mobile offices are becoming more popular each and every day and with the Internet it is becoming easier to work from home or on the road with mobile offices. You may want to create a home office, or a car office, or both to help you work virtually. If you want to include a car office then you will need a car desk installed in your vehicle or a mobile car desk that you can take with you in your own car or someone else’s.
The transition to a mobile office can take a little bit of time and organization because you need certain things to help you work properly. But, once you have all the necessities you will love your car office!
First, the most important thing for your mobile office is a laptop computer. You might want a tablet PC, which is mobile as well, if you are an artist or like to write. Regardless, a computer that is lightweight and mobile is essential. Make sure this computer is outfitted with a wireless Internet card so you can pick up the Internet no matter where you are. If you have a home office as well you might want to have an additional screen and a wireless mouse to help you transfer information. You will also find a flash drive, external hard drive, and even a portable mouse are important aspects of your mobile office. The external drive is more important in your home office so you can save important information, but it will make your mobile office more productive. Keep in mind that a long connection cable may be necessary if you are working in an environment that doesn’t have wireless. It seems impossible, but there are actually still a lot of places like this around.
Another important aspect of your mobile office is a cell phone and a personal digital assistant that you can synchronize with your laptop and keep all of your information easily accessible and up to date. While you are synchronizing and making life easier make sure that you can access your email account from the web. Most Internet services allow this, just make sure you understand how to do it so you can work mobile. Having your email downloaded to Internet Express or Outlook Express is a great option that will save you time and help you keep track of your information.

Picking Right Wedding Music As Important As Cake, Flowers By L Hayes
25/03/2007 by admin.
 Church organists everywhere are gritting their teeth as they prepare to pound out “Sunrise, Sunset” and “Evergreen” somewhere around two million times this wedding season. About 2.5 million couples tie the knot each year, and many don’t know where to start when it comes to choosing the music for their big day.
For the ceremony, do they choose classical or pop? Organist or ensemble? Soloist or choir? Vocals or instrumentals? For the reception, do they opt for a band or a disc jockey? Popular music or tried-and-true favorites?
In degree of difficulty, choosing wedding music is somewhere between picking flowers and designing a cake. Some people may have a particular type of sound in mind when they are first planning their wedding march music. It’s just unfamiliar territory for most people.
It depends on the length of your step, the way you want to walk, the vision you have of yourself as you come down the aisle and the number of people who will be with you. You then choose the music to correspond to that vision.
Music is one of the most important parts of both the wedding and reception. Music helps create the atmosphere. Special songs will make the wedding uniquely your own. Keep in mind the type of guests attending, the budget you have to work with, and any restrictions of the church or reception site.
Here are some tips and guidelines for your wedding regarding music selection
Prelude to the Ceremony: These should be quiet, contemplative pieces that start about a half hour before the ceremony. Some suggestions are: “Theme from ‘Chariots of Fire,’ ” Vangelis; “Largo,” the New World Symphony, Dvorak; “The Wedding Song,” Peter, Paul and Mary.
Ceremony Processional: This should be an instrumental with a good regular beat to walk to. Once the attendants have reached their positions, the music changes for the bride’s entrance. Suggestions: “Trumpet Voluntary,” Clarke; “Wedding March,” Mozart; “Bridal Chorus,” Wagner.
During the Ceremony: These selections should have an air of sacredness to them, mindful of the gravity of the occasion. Suggestions: “Ave Maria,” Schubert; “Joy of Man’s Desiring,” Bach; “The Lord’s Prayer,” Malotte.
Recessional: This should be upbeat with a quick tempo. Suggestions: “Wedding March,” Mendelssohn; “Trumpet Tune,” Purcell; “Ode to Joy,” Beethoven.
Be creative and have something beautiful, appropriate, and unusual, but don’t try to make a band perform unusual music that they don’t know how to do. Make sure to audition them first. It’s very important not to take them sight unseen and sound unheard.
Finally, go hear the group, band or soloist perform before signing any contracts. Also, be sure to go over song choices with them before the wedding, making a list of what you want them to play or not to play. You must hear them do something, see the way they dress, hear the way they play and know that they will do what you would like them to do.

10 Tips For A Well-Planned Wedding By L Hayes
25/03/2007 by admin.
 Though eloping is much cheaper and more hassle-free, it lacks the trimmings that make traditional weddings memorable. So, whether you’re getting married for the first time or celebrating your golden wedding anniversary, here are some tips for a truly orderly and beautiful occasion.
1. Prepare at least six months ahead of time. Not only are you able to secure the reception locations (hotels and churches) you want, this gives you time to save money in case you and your spouse-to-be are footing the bill. Your favorite priest or minister must also be informed early.
2. Make a budget. How much are you or your family willing to spend for the wedding? Whatever your resources, it’s just a question of fitting in everyone and everything into it. Call for the prices of hotels, food, cakes, music, flowers, photography and video services, gowns and tuxedos (for the wedding attendants) and the honeymoon. Add up the prices for a ballpark estimate of the final cost. If it’s beyond your budget, then start whittling down your guest list, the number of wedding attendants and other accoutrements.
3. Choose wedding participants who are dependable. You don’t want a ring-bearer who can hardly walk yet, or a bridesmaid who has gained 100 pounds since the bridal fittings and will not fit into the gown you just ordered! What about a niece who is in charge of the seating arrangements but doesn’t show up until dinner’s over? Such things can irritate everyone during the ceremony.
4. Fittings and practices are a must. Better to risk that old superstition about fitting your own gown bringing bad luck than to walk down the aisle with your dress falling off your shoulders or cutting off your circulation. Similarly, rehearsals for the wedding entourage are necessary so that each member knows what he or she is expected to do throughout the whole ceremony. The choir, especially if they are all children, should also be rehearsed. This sort of preparation gives you an overall sense of how the ceremony will go.
5. You and your future spouse can have special readings for the ceremony. Find out each other’s favorite passages and have relatives or friends with clear voices deliver them. Registering your wedding in department stores and choosing wedding favors are also activities that both of you should do.
6. Go to several make-up artists and hair stylists before choosing one. Try different hair styles and make-up. See which one makes you look absolutely beautiful.
7. Have your wedding photos taken before the wedding ceremony takes place. These pictures will look more candid and natural because your hair is still intact, your lipstick not smeared and you don’t have hundreds of other eyes staring at you.
8. Type out a schedule for important members of your wedding party, jotting down the following information: dates to remember (rehearsal dates, bridal showers, fittings, etc.), roles and responsibilities of each one before and during the wedding and timing sequence.
9. While it is normal to get excited and stressed out, drop everything on the eve of the wedding and have a good night’s sleep. If the wedding planning isn’t done by then, there is nothing you can do about it. You must look fresh on your wedding day. No bags around the eyes. It’s not a time to cry, either!
10. Send “Thank you” notes or small favors to everyone who helped make your wedding a very special day. Don’t forget your parents. They need to be reminded that they haven’t lost a child, they’ve gained another one (and maybe grandchildren, too)!
In the end, some things may not work out as planned. Don’t worry about it. Your guests will probably not notice the mistakes. It is not enough to ruin your day. Besides, you can make it up on your silver wedding anniversary!
